January 6, 2018 (San Diego’s East County) – The first significant Pacific storm of the season is forecast to hit our region Monday night through Wednesday morning, bringing up to four inches of rain to mountain areas along with snow above 4,500 feet. Thunderstorms, hail and gusty winds are also predicted.
Inland valleys, coastal areas and deserts are also expected to receive rain in lower amounts, with the heaviest downpour on Tuesday, when commutes will be “highly impacted,” according to the National Weather Service.
In the mountains, snow could fall at rates up to one inch an hour, with several inches possible above 5,000 feet.
Hazardous boating conditions are forecast along coastal areas Monday through Wednesday with strong rip currents, rough seas and waves up to 10 feet high.
