September 4, 2016 (Los Angeles) - The Padres had the opportunity to split the series with the Dodgers today.  Would they do it?  Jose De Leon started for the Dodgers against Christian Friedrich.

Well, things got off to a much better start.  Yangervis Solarte launched a two-run homer in the third to give the Padres a 2-0 lead.

But in the Dodger half of the third, Yasiel Puig, recently called up, hit a three-run homer to give the Dodgers a 3-2 lead.

But that wasn’t a big deal for Travis Jankowski, who singled on a bunt in the fifth to score Alexi Amarista and the Padres tied the game at three.  The Padres took the lead 4-3 on a sac fly by Solarte that scored Jankowski.

That didn’t last long either, as in the Dodgers’ half of the fifth, Chase Utley singled to score Justin Turner and we were knotted at 4.  Yasmani Grandal singled to score Puig and the Dodgers took the lead again 5-4.

The Dodgers weren’t done yet.  In the seventh, Grandal hit a two-run homer just out of the reach of Alex Dickerson in left and the Dodgers took a 7-4 lead.  They’d take that to the end and take the series two games to one.

The Boston Red Sox are coming to town for a three-game series.  Game one is tomorrow at 1:40 p.m.  Edwin Jackson will be on the mound against former Padre Drew Pomeranz.
