The East County Magazine Show  airs in prime time Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5 p.m. and reruns Tuesdays, Thursdays  at 9 a.m. and Saturdays at 8 a.m. on KNSJ 89.1 FM, broadcasting in Descanso from the mountains to the sea. East County Magazine has won 80 major journalism awards from San Diego Press Club, Society of Professional Journalists San Diego chapter and more, including top honors for investigative reporting and other categories.  Founded in 2008, ECM is a division of the nonprofit 501c3 Heartland Coalition.Our show, like our online magazine, has a mission is to reflect all voices in our region, particularly those under-represented in other media. Dedicated to keeping people safe and informed, ECM also established the East County Wildfire & Emergency Alerts for our region and aims to soon bring live alerts to the airways, too.

We interviewed Syrian refugees and Dilkhwaz Ahmed from License to Freedom, Paige Rogowski and Diana Lindsey on Anza Borrego Foundation’s 50th anniversary, newly elected Santee Councilman Stephen Houlahan and Preserve Wild Santee leader Van Collinsworth, Christmas in the Village spokesperson Katie Halvern, and local author Amanda Matti on her book, A Foreign Affair.  We also covered top local, state and national news on issues impacting people across our region.

You can hear full candidate forums we moderated with Helix Water District and Lemon Grove mayoral candidates. We also interviewed candidates for other local offices and chatted with La Mesa’s Mayor and Vice Mayor on Oktoberfest and the future of La Mesa. Hot topics in September included the shooting of Alfred Olango by El Cajon Police, water quality issues, the presidential race and more.  Plus hear our interview with a La Mesa Historical Society museum curator on an exhibit about Japanese-American students at Grossmont High School who were interned during World War II.

We spoke with top newsmakers including Congresswoman Susan Davis, many candidates for local offices (note: we invited ALL candidates in races we covered to be interviewed), authors, a theater producer, a mother who started the EP Save-a-Life foundation after losing her own son, the founder of Angels for Haiti, a Water for Children Africa spokeswoman on a new technique to derive drinking water from air, an executive from the East County Boys and Girls Clubs, and a Comic Fest organizer, among others.  We also went on location--covering events from the Jacumba Hot Springs Centennial to a Ramona benefit to save wild cheetahs. Plus we had news stories on many more hot topics.
