LAKESIDE FIRST SUSPENDS RECALL CAMPAIGN OF FIRE BOARD OFFICIALS

May 5, 2010 (Lakeside) -- Lakeside First, a citizens' oversight group formed in February 2010, announced today that it will suspend its recall campaign against Lakeside Fire Board Directors Nick Johnson and Jim Bingham. The action came after Lakeside First board members voted in a near-unanimous decision that the recall campaign was no longer supported by the majority of the board.

FPPC FINES LAKESIDE FIREFIGHTERS PAC FOR LATE FILINGS; LARGE DONATIONS, GAPS IN RECORDS RAISE QUESTIONS

April 8, 2010 (Lakeside) -- The California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) today announced it is issuing a $400 fine against the Lakeside Firefighters Political Action Committee (PAC) and John Hisaw, the committee’s treasurer, for failing to file two semi-annual campaign statements in a timely manner with the San Diego County Registrar of Voters in 2008 and 2009. Two filings appear to have never been turned in.

The amounts raised and funneled into campaigns to elect two union members, Jim Bingham and Nicholas Johnson, to the Lakeside Fire Board have raised eyebrows recently. Both members are now facing a recall election launched by Lakeside citizens angry at the pair for voting to fire Lakeside Fire Chief Mark Baker.

FIRE BOARD AXES ITS CHIEF

 By Dennis Richardson

January 16, 2010 (Lakeside) -- The Lakeside Fire Board fired our Chief for doing his job far above the expectations. The rushed lynching of Chief Mark Baker was not announced or publicized to the public by the Fire Board.

This firing was done with the hearing room filled with his supporters who all voiced their heart-filled opinions to keep him; standing room only. The board went against the public outcry to keep Chief Baker.
