June 5 (La Mesa) -- Here's what's happening in La Mesa this month!

There are a number of food events this month, including a Fire Station pancake breakfast, a Craft Beer and Wine Fest, the Taste of La Mesa, three nights of food trucks, and two nights of farmers' markets.

But fear not, as there are also several ways to work off all those calories.

Special Events

La Mesa Historical Society Craft Beer and Wine Festival - June 6

A Craft Beer and Wine Summer Festival to benefit the La Mesa Historical Society will be held on Saturday, June 6 from 1 to 6 p.m. at 4888 Date Avenue at the La Mesa Farmer’s Market parking lot.  The festivities include unlimited tastes from 20 breweries plus a VIP lounge, live music, food trucks, and over 30 vendors.

United Methodist LGBT Love In - June 6

A modern-day “Love –In” will showcase one United Methodist congregation’s welcoming environment for love between all people, including the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.  The event will take place on Saturday, June 6 at 7 p.m. at Foothills United Methodist Church, 4031 Avocado Blvd., La Mesa. Fire Department Pancake Breakfast - June 7

The pancake breakfast, at Fire Station 1 from 8:00am to Noon, will benefit Local 4759 charitable contributions. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. Breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice and coffee.  [More Info]

La Mesa Chamber of Commerce 7th annual Taste of La Mesa - June 8

The La Mesa Chamber of Commerce invites you to “eat your heart out” at the 7th annual Taste of La Mesa, featuring tastings from 29 local restaurants.  This year’s event will be held on Monday, June 8 from 6-8 p.m. at the La Mesa Community Center (4975 Community Drive). General Admission tickets begin at $45 per person. Walking Wednesdays - June 10 & 24 

Join the City's program for "Walking Wednesdays!" This is a great opportunity to be active and discover La Mesa's current and future urban trail system. June 10 the group meets at 9:00 a.m. at The Spacebar, 7454 University Ave, for an intermediate route of approximately 3 miles. June 24 they will meet at 6:00 p.m. at Terra Bistro, 7091 El Cajon Blvd. for an intermediate route of approximately 2.5 miles. [Schedule

Sundays at Six Summer Concerts - June 14, 21 & 28

"Sundays at Six" summer concerts are held in the beautiful outdoor amphitheater at Harry Griffen Park, 9550 Milden Street. Bring a picnic and enjoy free music in the park. Jun 14 entertainment will be the San Diego Concert Band, Pop Vinyl (Top 40) on June 21, and Emerald River Band (Country/Classic Rock) on June 28.  [Flyer]

Ride4Neighbors "We Care Wednesdays" - June 17

The Hills will be donating 10% of all proceeds to Rides4Neighbors. Bring your friends, family, and neighbors for a fun night out and help support Rides4Neighbors. [Flyer]

Free Paper Shredding Event - June 20

Don't discard - Shred your household documents in a quick and easy way by bringing them to La Mesa's EDCO Station. Shredding will be done onsite by a professional company. No appointment necessary, limit two boxes per household. [More Details]

American Red Cross Blood Drive - June 30 

The blood drive will take place at Grossmont Center in the Walmart Garden Center parking lot from 12:00 pm - 6:15 pm.

Weekly Events

At the La Mesa Library

  • Monday - Lego and Scrabble Clubs.
  • Tuesday - Silver Sneaker Yoga, Baby Lapsit, Ebook Tutoring and Bilingual Storytime.
  • Wednesday - Chess Club, Knitting Club, Ebook Tutoring and PJ Storytime.
  • Thursday - Preschool and Teen activities.
  • Friday - Toddler Storytimes.
  • Saturday - Introductory Computer Classes.

Grossmont Center Mall Walkers Program - Saturdays

There are three routes to choose from, ranging from 0.5 miles to 1.42 miles, so you can join in at any level you feel comfortable with. The walks begin at 8am and 9am every Saturday morning. The program is proudly offered through Grossmont Adult School. To learn more and join the Mall Walkers program call 619-204-1079. [More info]

Power Yoga at Mt. Helix Park

Classes held on Monday, Wednesday or Friday morning at 9 am taught by long-time instructor Rose Walters. The Yoga class is a drop-in donation based class for all levels so no registration is required. [More info]

  • Best Buy Gathering  every Tuesday from 5:30pm – 8:30pm at 8401 Fletcher Parkway, 91942.
  • Food Truck Thursdays at Grossmont Center in front of Walmart Garden Center and Barnes & Noble, from Apr 02 - Nov 19 05:00 pm - 07:30 pm.

Farmers Markets

  • City of La Mesa Farmers Market, every Friday afternoon from 2pm - 6pm in the City Hall parking lot.
