November 25, 2019 (San Diego’s East County) -- People camped out in line for hours, anticipating the release of the latest gaming system. Shoppers storming store doors as they open, trampling over others in their excitement. Punches thrown over the last $300 flat screen TV. That's right, folks.  This Friday is Black Friday. And it can get nasty.

November 21, 2018 (San Diego) - Don’t want to fight the crowds on Black Friday? Enjoy a park at your own pace. County Parks and Recreation has declared Friday, Nov. 23 “Green Friday” to prompt families and friends to spend more quality time together outside on the day after Thanksgiving. Take a hike, tour a canyon, meet an animal ambassador – it’s all possible at parks on Green Friday.

BANK ROBBERY IN EL CAJON

December 6, 2014 (San Diego)--The San Diego County Sheriff's Department wants your help in identifying and finding a man who robbed a bank in the East County on Black Friday.  It happened just before 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 28th at the Wells Fargo Bank located inside Vons in the 13000 block of Camino Canada in an unincorporated area of El Cajon.

LOCAL CHURCH LEADERS ORGANIZE “BLACK LIVES MATTER” CANDLELIGHT VIGIL AND BLACK FRIDAY BOYCOTT

November 28, 2014 (San Diego’s East Coujnty)--Many are wondering how to best respond to the cries for justice coming from communities across the country in the wake of the situation in Ferguson. 

The San Diego Partnership of Churches is asking people in San Diego County to “prayerfully consider making this Black Friday a day of prayer and of participation in the nationwide boycott encouraging  shoppers to not to spend one dime on Black Friday,” says Mary Domb Mikkelson with United Church of Christ in La Mesa. “This is a form of nonviolent protest in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.”

Organizers plan a candlelight vigil at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 29 at 5:00 p.m. at Mission Hills United Church of Christ, 4070 Jackdaw Street, San Diego, CA 92108, (http://www.missionhillsucc.org/).

WORKERS TO STAGE WALK OUTS AT WALMART STORES ON BLACK FRIDAY

November 13, 2012 (San Diego’s East County)—Small Business Saturday aims to help support local merchants in communities across America.  This year, Saturday November 24 is Small Business Saturday-sandwiched between “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday.”

The Small Business Association and American Express urge consumers to support participating businesses in your community. Qualified small businesses can get free online advertising and marketing materials.

OCCUPYING WALMART: BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPERS GREETED BY FLASH MOBS IN SAN DIEGO

November 26, 2011 (San Diego) – Startled shoppers in two San Diego Walmart stores received a message delivered by 75 Occupy San Diego protesters forming a human microphone. The protesters urged Walmart shoppers to support locally-owned small businesses instead of corporate-owned mass merchandizers.

November 26, 2011 (San Diego’s Eat County) – Last year, “Small Business Saturday” rallied Americans to support small, independently owned businesses in their communities on the day after "Black Friday" over Thanksgiving weekend, the start of the holiday shopping season.

 Now Google, Facebook and Twitter are helping to support small businesses as part of Small Business Saturday today, November 26. Consumers can sign up on line for special discounts if they support small businesses by making purchases today.
