STEELE CANYON MAY STEAL LEAGUE TITLE

By David Dickens

March 6, 2014 (San Diego’s East County) -- The Steele Canyon Cougars finished the 2013 varsity baseball season, (4-11) in league, and (14-15) overall. Shortstop Tanner Perry was one of the bright spots last season, as he made all-league. Perry also plays basketball, and is the key senior amongst many returning this season.  Helping the turnaround, first year coach  and former Oakland Athletic Dan Nerat, will be commanding the Cougars this year to assist Perry and his teammates reach the promise land.

COUGARS DOWN SPARTANS 41-14 IN OPENER

By Derek Carlyon

September 1, 2013 (Rancho San Diego)--The Friday night lights were back on as East County’s Steele Canyon Cougars faced off against the South Bay’s Chula Vista Spartans in the season opener.  The Cougars were favored to win, but the Spartans would be no walk in the park coming off a 6-5 record just a season ago.  The game focused on Steele Canyon’s high powered offense and the Spartans’ efforts to slow it down and stay in the game.

After exceptional junior Jordan Johnson (who plays both safety and quarterback) led the Cougars deep into Spartan territory, Steele had to settle for a 30-yard field goal by senior kicker Kenneth Bagdasar.  Bagdasar was strong all game, going five of five on point-after-attempts and also booting another 25-yard field goal.  He could easily be one of the best legs in East County this season.

BOYS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: GROSSMONT NOT SATISFIED WITH 47-36 WIN AT STEELE CANYON

by Christopher Mohr

February 7, 2010 (Rancho San Diego) - Whoever coined the phrase, 'a win is a win', never met the Grossmont Foothillers' basketball team. If you knew nothing about the outcome of Friday night's game and observed the Grossmont players' demeanor afterwards, you would have been surprised to find out that they won. Although it's a game they would rather not talk about, the Foothillers survived their lackluster play and a late run by the host Steele Canyon Cougars to pull out a 47-36 win.
