RECYCLE YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE: 16 DROP-OFF LOCATIONS COUNTY-WIDE

December 28, 2010 (San Diegoi)--The City of San Diego’s Environmental Services Department is hosting the 37th annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program through January 23, 2011. This year’s program offers 16 drop-off locations for City residents, as well as curbside pickup for customers with curbside yard waste collection.

WHITE CHRISTMAS! SNOW FORECAST FOR SAN DIEGO COUNTY MOUNTAIN PEAKS

 

More rain likely to bring more flooding, debris slides, National Weather Service cautions

 

December 24, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – A light dusting of snow is forecast for San Diego County mountain peaks over 5500 feet on Christmas Day, the National Weather Service predicts. That includes Mt. Laguna and other high peaks in Rancho Cuyamaca State Park. If traveling in mountain areas, be prepared for winter storm conditions and carry tire chains in higher elevations.

December 24, 2010 (North Pole) -- NORAD , the North American Aerospace Defense Command, has confirmed that Santa and his fully-loaded, reindeer-powered sleigh took off from the North Pole and soared into the arctic sky at 6:00 a.m. EST (3:00 a.m. PST). NORAD radar is tracking Rudolph’s bright red nose, and satellite imagery is providing minute-by-minute coverage of Santa’s location.

AMR DELIVERS MORE THAN MEDICAL SERVICES THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

 

December 23, 2010 (San Diego) -- This holiday season American Medical Response (AMR) Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s) are extending helping hands by delivering meals and gifts to people in need. Recipients were identified by AMR caregivers in partnership with the YMCA, National City Spirit of the Holidays and the Forget Me Not Foundation.

December 20, 2010 (Alpine) - Santa dropped into Alpine with a Blackhawk helicopter on Saturday, as these provided by Craig Linden at Kamps Propane reveal.  Gearing up for his round-the-world Christmas Eve flight, Santa paused for photos with local kids and their pets in an event that was truly the cat's meow!

CHALDEAN CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION DEC. 18 IN EL CAJON

 

December 18, 2010 (El Cajon) – Christmas on Prescott, a unique Chaldean Christmas Celebration, will be held Saturday, December 18 from 1-5 p.m. on Prescott Promeande in downtown El Cajon. The event will feature Christian Arabic carols and music, English carols and music, skits, Santa Claus, face painting, balloons, and more. In addition, downtown stores and restaurants are open while you enjoy the free Holly Jolly Trolley around downtown, strolling Christmas carolers, and merchant specials.

ASSEMBLYMAN BLOCK HOSTS "HOLIDAY HELPING HANDS" DEC. 16 IN SPRING VALLEY TO ASSIST FAMILIES AND EXPECTANT MOMS

 

 

December 15, 2010 (Spring Valley)– To help make the holiday season brighter for low-income families in his district, Assemblymember Marty Block (AD-78) will sponsor the “Holiday Helping Hands” Event on Thursday, Dec. 16 from 12-1:30 p.m. (while supplies last), at the Family Health Centers of San Diego at 8788 Jamacha Road, Spring Valley. 

 

In partnership with the Barona Band of Mission Indians, Block will distribute toys to children and families at the health center.  He will also donate baby clothes and supplies to the health center’s Holiday Baby Boutique Program to assist expectant mothers and newborn babies.

SANTA’S COMING TO ALPINE: AND SO IS A BLACKHAWK HELICOPTER


December 15, 2010 (Alpine) – Giving the reindeer a rest, Santa is bringing a helicopter to the Albertson’s store, 2955 Alpine Blvd. in Alpine.

 

Free Santa photos with your children and pets will be provided.  Free popcorn, candy, hot chocolate and hot cider will all be part of the festivities this Saturday, December 18 from 1-6 p.m.

December 14, 2010 (El Cajon) -- Parents, are you looking for a fun place to take the kids while you get some holiday shopping done?  Hillside Center in El Cajon is hosting a “Winter Wonderland Party Palooza” from 4-6 p.m. and children ages 5-12 are invited. The event includes a variety of holiday games, arts & crafts, cookie baking, and much more. Sign-ups have already started and the deadline to enroll is Wednesday, December 15th.

Oh, wait, that was last year, or the one before. This Christmas everyone seems to be downsizing IF they are lucky enough to even have a home, and a job, and something extra. So the question is HOW do you make this a wonderful Christmas if the day itself is not really about the quantity of gifts?

LA MESA POLICE SEEK TEDDY BEARS FOR HOSPITALIZED CHILDREN

 

December 10, 2010 (La Mesa)-- La Mesa Police Department seeks donations of teddy bears and other stuffed animals for the 20th Annual Regional Law Enforcement Teddy Bear Drive, which benefits children at Rady Children’s Hospital. The public is encouraged to donate new and unused teddy bears (with tags still affixed) or other stuffed animals, which can be dropped off in the La Mesa Police Department lobby in the designated barrels.

December 11, 2010 (Rancho San Diego)--The Rancho San Diego-Jamul Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Olde Time Christmas Village December 11th from 3-9 pm in the Rancho San Diego Professional Center, 3855 Avocado Bl., La Mesa.

 

This free public event celebrates children and community. Activities include a snowman building contest, a bonfire, free photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, holiday treats, sweets and more.

December 10, 2010 (La Mesa) – La Mesa’s downtown village transforms into a Victorian-style wonderland December 10th and 11th from 5-10 p.m. The annual Christmas in the Village celebration features horse-drawn carriages, bonfires on La Mesa Boulevard, strolling minstrels, carolers, street entertainers, puppets, carnival rides and Santa Claus.

TOY DRIVE PARTY TONIGHT AT VIEJAS;

FIRE STATIONS ALSO ACCEPTING TOYS

December 8, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – Donations for the East County Toy & Food Drive are lagging far behind prior years, says Monica Zech, public information officer for the City of El Cajon. “To date, we’ve hardly received any toys,” she said. “I know times are tough, but we usually have individuals and civic groups donating toys by now…I hope you can help.”
 

New unwrapped toys may be dropped off at all fire stations throughout East County. In addition, the public is invited to a Holiday Toy Drive Party tonight at the Viejas Dreamcatcher Lounge, 5000 Willow Road at Viejas Casinio in Alpine from 6-9 p.m. Admission is $20, or $10 with a new, unwrapped toy. The event includes a silent auction to benefit the East County Holiday Toy & Food Drive.

YOUTH TO PRESENT FIRST POSADA & LIVE NATIVITY IN KENSINGTON

 

December 8, 2010 (Kensington ) - Middle and high school students from San Diego’s Kensington Community Church (United Church of Christ) will present a traditional Mexican  “Las Posadas” (“the inns” in Spanish) procession on Saturday, December 18 at 5:30 p.m.

 

The public is invited to follow by candlelight as Joseph, Mary and a donkey try to find lodging. A stable will feature live animals and the Nativity scene come to life.

December 7, 2010 (San Diego) – Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) aims to load up ten buses with 8,000 pounds of food for hungry families this Saturday, December 11, at ten Vons stores across San Diego County.

December 7, 2010 (Alpine) -- On December 16, 17 & 21, the East County Toy and Food Drive will provide toys and a Christmas meal to over 1,500 East County families who have signed up with us requesting assistance. “To do this we need your help. We desperately need toys and financial donations to make this possible,” says Capt. Darren Norton with the East County Salvation Army.

Viejas will host Stoney and Rob's Holiday Party and Auction in the Viejas Dreamcatcher Lounge this Wednesday evening, December 8th from 6-9 p.m. to raise money for the toy and food drive.

The Lakeside Chamber of Commerce invites you and your family to visit with Santa and enjoy holiday music, a petting zoo, hay rides, jump area for kids, games, a Blackhawk helicopter, Christmas shopping, food, and entertainment.

SANTA TO LEAD BICYCLE TOY DRIVE TO KROC CENTER

 

December 2, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – Santa Claus will soon be getting some exercise. Instead of riding in a sleigh drawn by reindeer, Santa will utilize pedal power as he leads over150 bicyclists in the San Diego Bicycle Club’s 23rd annual “Light up a Life” holiday toy drive on December 11th.

HO, HO, SNOW! ALPINE SNOW FESTIVAL & PARADE OF LIGHTS DEC. 3

December 2, 2010 (Alpine) – Alpine Boulevard transforms into a winter wonderland on December 3, when the town hosts its annual Alpine Village Christmas celebration.

 

Santa arrives at 6:30 p.m., riding in the 15th annual Parade of Lights.  Afterwards, Santa and his helpers will light a holiday tree at the Alpine Community Center, 1830 Alpine Blvd., and join in a holiday sing-along. Kids and the young in heart are also invited to stay and play in a free mountain of snow, complete with sledding.
