By Liz Alper

July 10, 2016 (Los Angeles) – The Padres won’t be able to get a nice four-game sweep before the All-Star break, but they did have the chance for a clean split.  Christian Friedrich started on the hill against Kenta Maeda—the Japanese phenom who gave the Padres such a headache in that opening series--for the Dodgers.

July 6, 2016 (Phoenix) - The Padres aren’t going to get a sweep opportunity this series, but they would get an opportunity to take the series from the Diamondbacks tonight.  Colin Rea started for the Padres against a rare, slumping Shelby Miller for Arizona.

July 3, 2016 (San Diego) – Over there, over there, send the word, send the word over there, that the Yanks are coming, the Yanks are coming, the drums rum-tumming everywhere…the Pads and Yanks finished up their series on the eve of the Fourth of July and it’s almost like they wanted me to open this recap by singing Over There with this scheduling.  Andrew Cashner, recently reinstated from the DL, started for the Padres today against Chad Green for New York.

July 1, 2016 (San Diego) - The Padres started July with an unusual opponent:  the New York Yankees.  The Bronx Bombers, who are generally excellent, have been slumping a bit this season, which could only (hopefully) mean good news for the Padres.  Or could it?  Let’s see if it did.

June 25, 2016 (Cincinnati) – The Padres and Reds got a nationally televised game three today.  What a treat!  It was also Pete Rose’s retirement ceremony (his number will be retired tomorrow), but considering that the Padres have won the last two games in this series decidedly, I don’t think they need any gambling help.  Drew Pomeranz started for San Diego against Brandon Finnegan for Cincy.
