April 7, 2017 (San Diego) - People always feel better when they come home.  Today, we would see if that saying held true for the Padres as they played their home opener against the San Francisco Giants.  Luis Perdomo got the home opener nod for the Padres against Matt Cain for the Giants.

April 6, 2017 (Los Angeles) - It wasn’t half as bad as Opening Day, but the Padres still lost last night by only two runs.  They looked to even up the series and get out of LA with an even season series against the Dodgers.  New Padre (and perhaps a shadow of his former self) Jered Weaver started on the hill against Twitter funnyman Brandon McCarthy.

April 5, 2017 (Los Angeles) - Don’t look now, but the Padres could have the lead in a series.  The opening series, in fact.  And away from home.  Against the Dodgers.  With Trevor Cahill on the mound against Rich Hill for the Dodgers.

April 3, 2017 (Los Angeles) - Ah, Opening Day.  Probably the best time of the year besides Christmas.  The sun is shining, the birds are singing, the field is green and another Padres season is upon us.  And since the Pads failed so miserably at home on Opening Day against the Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw last year, the MLB decided to see how they do on an Opening Day away from home against the Dodgers.  Jhoulys Chacin got the Opening Day nod for San Diego against Kershaw. Good luck.

THE BENEVOLENCE OF RAY AND JOAN KROC

Ray & Joan: The Man Who Made the McDonald’s Fortune and the Woman Who Gave It All Away, by Lisa Napoli (Dutton, New York, NY, 2016, 353 pages).

Book Review by Dennis Moore

January 3, 2017 (San Diego) - Virtually everyone in the world has had and tasted a McDonald’s hamburger at some time or another. In my case I have actually had thousands, and as a matter of fact, my first job at the age of 19 was preparing burgers and fries at a McDonald’s in Kansas City. Ray & Joan: The Man Who Made the McDonald’s Fortune and the Woman Who Gave It All Away, is an intriguing book about fame and fortune, and how it all began.
